Sounds like a Book is a book-making and self-publishing platform that addresses those interested in the book as a medium of artistic expression. As the chosen name suggests, SLB focuses on the visual transmission, conversion, and representation of the sound.\n

During the 2022 ”Threads Residency”, the artists: Alexandru Mihai Budeș, Nadine Weber, Roxana Morar, Guillaume Bihan, Vitaliy Yankovii, Miruna Radovici recorded a jam session using the Artists play with time installation. \n

Alexandru Mihai Budeș is primarily a storyteller. Touching biographical elements, he weaves
together: fact, history, mythology, observations and parallels drawn between the cultures
encountered, elements of literature and conversations, human feelings, and states of mind -
which interrogate different aspects of common and personal reality, consciousness, and
subconsciousness. His diverse background forms the blueprint of his artistic practice that connects, translates and operates across the borders of different media, artistic genres and disciplines. The work takes the shape of sculptures, performances, films, drawings, installations to machines and AI programs, which he creates by drawing on sources ranging from local legends to global knowledge and personal anthropology.\n

Nadine Weber (CH/NL), born 20.01.1996, grew up in Guggisberg. In 2017 Nadine graduated graphic arts class in Biel/Bienne (CH) and lived and worked in Bern, Biel, Zurich, Linz and Vienna. With two other friends she founded the band “Desolation Database” and DJs electronic music. Nadine is currently studying Design Investigations at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and works as an artist and designer in the fields of graphic design, motion graphics, illustration with focus on feminist and social aspects.\n

Roxana Morar (b. 1997) is a visual artist and illustrator, graduate of the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca, graphic design section. Currently, her artistic practice is focused on experimenting and combining different artistic media, such as photography, video, performance and graphic design. At the same time, she is deeply inspired by the area of anthropological and social sciences.\n

Vitaliy Yankov is a visual artist, designer, researcher who finished a Contemporary art course at School of visual communication (Kyiv) in 2014 (curated by Catherina Badianova and Lada Nakonechna). Finished Indie Lab documentary school in Kyiv (2018) and American Art Incubator, organized by Izolyatsia and Zero1 (2020). Participated in many online and offline residencies in Ukraine and internationally. Works with video essays, animation, 3D, and drawing. Sphere of interest is flexible from subjective data visualisation and urban site-specific studies to research of video-games, memory places and specifics of functioning of commercial culture. Study object-oriented ontology and weird objects.\n

Miruna Radovici is a visual artist who investigates the development of a universe as the works stage the core of social evolution: interactions, language, touch, the organic appearance and disappearance of emotion. She visually transposes them through a multitude of environments (painting, textiles, photography and others) that are meant to illustrate circumstances of intimacy, existential problems, all under the aegis of the private atmosphere of the subjects.

Rezidența21 is a platform for independent music and experimentation. The program encourages mobility and the intersection of artists through artistic residencies, the commoning of local resources and training programmes in different areas of music and sound for beginners. Rezidența21 is a MATKA initiative started in 2020, curated and produced by Mihaela Cîrjan.\n

The MMXX-II edition was dedicated to the local queer scene, gathering artists working with different genres and practices in an artistic residency based on collaboration. The residency had two phases of collaborative work: a first one in April 2022 in a studio in Bucharest working together with 3 artists from Ukraine who had answered our open-call, and a second one, in September, in Letea Village in the Danube Delta. In Letea, some of the resident artists answered the provocation of ”Artists Play with Time ”and experimented with the sound installation composed of analogue clocks in several jam sessions.\n

PAUL DUNCA/PAULA DUNKER promises that her (artistic) work is based on the analysis of systems of representation, production and creation. Born in 2016, Paula Dunker is the musical alter ego and latest discovered identity in the body of performer, choreographer and playwright Paul Dunca. Paula works most often with the body. She is the daughter of Romanian contemporary dance, the sister of local political theatre, the mother of the queer clubbing scene in Bucharest and, together with Alex Bălă, initiated the techno-faggothique musical genre. She confronts existing patterns, helps to build possible new worlds and heal it. Paul Dunca/ Paula Dunker - a physical queer activist - was born in Bucharest where s/he still lives and works today. That’s why his/her work is very eclectic and includes a very large diversity of expression: from collaborating with different theater directors to creating his/her own dance pieces, from waiting tables to his/her own MTV show, from community art to performing at the Venice Biennale in the frame of the Romanian Pavilion, from articles in magazines and roles in local movies awarded internationally and performing his/her work at the National Centre of Dance in Bucharest and showing it in the Judson Church, New York or HAU2, Berlin and to live concerts with his/her queer act, #FLUID. All in all s/he’s happy whenever s/he can be useful, move and move the world.\n

ALEX BĂLĂ is a music composer, instrumentalist &amp; producer born in Craiova, who lives and works in Bucharest. Alex Bălă is an extremely versatile musician, who throughout his career has worked and continues to work in various group formats or as a producer of music for theatre and film. In 2013 he started together with artists Cristian Fierbințeanu and Gabriela Fierbințeanu (Fierbințeanu) the electronic music project Plurabelle, in which he worked as producer and instrumentalist. In 2016 he composed and performed music for the ”The Sung History of Romanian Dance”, supported by the National Dance Centre Bucharest @cndb.ro. Since 2011, Alex Bălă has been composing music for theatre plays and films in Romania and abroad, including ”If I Think Out Loud” (d. Radu Afrim, 2017), ”All the Peace in the World” (d. Radu Apostol, 2019) and ”Amortals” (d. Bogdan Georgescu, 2022), which recently premiered at the Marin Sorescu National Theatre in Craiova.\n

SUCE FRAGA • outernational pseudo-ghetto sensitivity, fragile neo-femme power and genre cannibalism. Fraga could be regarded as a synthetic self-thought producer. Traversing with ease different breeds of electronica while being immersed in trap, hip-hop, and no-step grooves. Jumping off the grid with unparalleled elegance, her voice keeps all surrounding sounds together rendering in the end a very personal, strangely coherent universe. Born and raised in Bucharest, Andreea Baciu aka Suce Fraga comes from a family of engineers and sales people who have always been supportive of her creativity. She joined the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Choir of Bucharest at the age of 9. This is the moment when her mindset switches from audiophile to music playing. Psychology University graduate, she followed her interest in the study of human behaviour and went for a master’s degree in psychoanalysis. In the meantime her love for music shifted into a craving to produce audio material of her own, she started to play in a band and study bass, drums and eventually, made it into the world of digital audio workstations. compositions. Thematically, Sofia Zada’s music explores the spaces between the emotional and the social, all from a queer and feminist perspective. In 2020 Sofia Zadar released her first EP • Sunday Blue • and on 22 August 2021 she released her 2nd one • Lyra • an ecofeminist meditation on communities and collective transformation. The EP was produced at Cirkular studio • @cirkular.ro • in Cluj and has been characterized, among other things, as ”a handful of tracks that excel lyrically and sonically alike, rising above entire albums of unassuming aesthetics” (Cezar Popa, Echinox Magazine).\n

CHLORYS is a musical & visual entity, part of the Queer Night family, a Shape Platform artist (2017 edition) and a founding member of the Corp. platform, with a main focus on the representation & promotion of queer identities (trans, non-binary, etc.). She has been a resident of Noods Radio for two years, where she is in charge of the ”Alien Flora”; show, and from 2021, together with Corp., takes care of the Corpcast radio show on the local radio station Black Rhino Radio.\n

+SHE+ (Corina Sucarov) started experimenting with music in various bands, doing backing vocals and performance. In 2017, she started shy and unannounced concerts at festivals to test how she feels when she shows her child. In 2018, experimenting with new sounds, she gave birth to the first songs on her first album, and in 2019 Corina launched the project +SHE + in Control Club in Bucharest and then followed concerts around the country and abroad. In May 2022, +SHE+ launched her 2nd album, „Katerina Molotov”, and started performing with her own band. +SHE+ is an amalgam of intense emotions as the artist is in everyday life. The project has a synth-pop & dark-electro taste, and with each bite another flavor is added in your body.\n


I am based in Bucharest, Romania, and started making electronic music sometime in 2015. I
released a few EPs under the Aegun moniker on Calimera, Sendero, and Fabulae Records.
Jotunn began in 2019 as a side project because I was attracted more to experimental music
that is independent of genre. I released my first album as Jotunn, Archetypes (Prelude to
Genesis), in 2022 on Archipel Musique Canada.\n

The backbone of the performance was the idea that we ought to think of time as something
fluid and dynamic, rather than liniar and static. Music directly integrates time. As the title of
Ingrid Ene's project suggests, music can be seen as "a domination of time", an attempt to
directly organize time itself and play with it. Time implies repetition - the sound of seconds
repeating "endlessly", being always the same and paradoxically different. Likewise, I focused
on repetition throughout the performance.

Andrei Raicu studied Theatre Directing at UNATC "I.L.Caragiale" Bucharest and continued with a master's degree in directing at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș. He directed the shows "Hotel Europa" (Goran Stefanovski, National Theatre, Bucharest, 2015), "Euralien" (Goran Stefanovski, a co-production of "Ioan Slavici" Classical Theatre of Arad with Citizenit Association, 2016) and "God is a Dj" (Falk Richter, Northern Theatre Satu Mare, 2019). In 2015 he started composing electronic music for theatre and performance shows: "Bang" by Marius von Mayenburg (r. Theodor-Cristian Popescu, National Theatre "Marin Sorescu" Craiova), "Terminal" by Presniakov Brothers, (r. Sorin Militaru, National Theatre Târgu Mureș - Company "Liviu Rebreanu"), "Queerdos" - series of interdisciplinary performances (coord. Cătălin Jugravu, Berlin). He is currently looking for new methods of interaction with sound and the way of its generation, applied in performance art projects, new media installations and experimental music. Bogdana Dima - born 09.05.1990 in Focşani, Romania. Musician, performer, active in the free-improvisation scene of Bucharest, with background in classical music, (piano, choir, choir conducting), bachelor degree at The National University of Music in Bucharest, interested in developing new ways of expression on several musical instruments (accordion, violin, cello, saxophone, percussion) and voice. Between 2015-2018 she was a member of PFA Orchestra, a working group for para-academic and independent research in music who collaborated with Iancu Dumitrescu. She played alongside Maja Osojnik, Mia Zabelka, Franz Hautzinger, Isabelle Duthoit, Raed Yassin, Mazen Kerbaj, Rabih Beaini.

"Bogdan Ardeleanu started his musical journey more than 10 years ago with two friends from his hometown Ploiești - the group Lisiere Collectif. Meanwhile, he is part of two other projects- A Dublu & Kosmogonik.\n

In parallel with these projects and with a part-time job in the tech area, he makes and plays music with his own solo project, under the pseudonym of ardb; where he creates melodic sounds inspired by the reflection on the on-the-go reality of the cities where he lives - Ploiești and Bucharest.\n
With a recent background in piano, with musical curiosity and in the area of visual and performance arts, Bogdan's sound is built gradually and meandering; from smooth, almost melancholic sounds, to increasingly high and industrial intensities. We can compare the path of music in his gigs to a walk through his hometown - from the city center, with historical buildings simply left in their silent beauty, to dusty neighborhoods and then the outskirts with factories and factories, landscapes stretched by industrial spaces."\n


Born and living in Bucharest, Miron Ghiu won the second prize at the International Philosophy Competition, in 1998, with an essay about virtual spaces. He studied philosophy at the University of Bucharest and started to work as a new media and music journalist. In 2004 he published books on The Beatles, Ozzy Osbourne & Marilyn Manson (Humanitas) and worked for about 3 years as a PR Manager for EMI Records Romania and BMG. For many years Miron Ghiu has been a freelance journalist for various media outlets (like TheAttic (+) or RevistaARTA) and a sound designer and DJ. He’s mad about music, passionate about technology and tends to use all kinds of media in his works. He’s a transhumanist and he loves robots as much as humans, waiting for the technological singularity to come. Politically and aesthetically speaking, Miron Ghiu is an anarchist.\n

In 2006 he was sound designer for a multimedia CD-ROM based on Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s “Little Prince”. In 2008 he started to DJ for various events and clubs.Since 2010 he’s a member of Nava Spatiala, an experimental ambient/drone/noise duo which debuted in 2012 @ Asiluum.com.In 2011 Nava Spatiala performed at the Simultan festival. Through the years Nava Spatiala released many LP’s, split-albums on various media ranging from tape to usb-sticks or bandcamp. In 2010 Miron Ghiu contributed a sound-piece to an art exhibition held at the Brukhental Contemporary Art Museum. In 2011 he held an open studio using all kinds of media, from gramophone recordings to hacked game consoles, for Platforma Space, subsidiary exhibition space of the National Contemporary Art Museum in Bucharest. In 2012 he was sound designer for “Reality Videograms”, a video installation by Cinty Ionescu at Aiurart Gallery in Bucharest. He was also sound designer for a mixed-media performance produced independently in Bucharest and performed in various spaces around the country – “Detox” by Roland Barthes. He participated in the Young Artists Biennale with a video documenting visible communication cables in Bucharest –  “Cabluri/Cables”.  He did the sound design for “Urme de distrugere pe Marte”, a performative installation in a theatrical context @ Teatrul Odeon. He composed the soundtrack for a silent movie, Leiba Zibal, currently on display online. In 2019 and 2020 he participated in two projects regarding various parts of Bucharest, audio mapping by field-recording whole neighbourhoods (here is one of them). He had numerous concerts in Romania and Europe, both as a member of Nava Spatiala and as a solo artist. His first solo album was published by Soundsphere (a CC-label), a label which also organizes the AmbientWaves event series. He also did live sound design for a number of performances including two in a full audio/video duplex with Stanford.\n

Dolores Mondo Stash has been around for a few years and it's a solo project that started in 2017 with the release of The Hell's Hoarder EP. Since the beginning, Dolores Mondo Stash was a vessel for sound experimentation, from different recording techniques, to different styles and influences; from industrial, noise to no-wave, psychedelic and ambient.\n

My work is mainly shrouded in a lo-fi aesthetics – the tape loops being a recurrent sound theme and technique used in my work.\n

Since 2017, I have released music on different labels from around the world and collaborated with multiple sound artists.

If I were to tell you the story of my life, it would be mostly about music. Since childhood I`ve been drawn to music in its different forms of expression, beginning from DJ-ing to an obsession with Guitar Hero and there it all went to studying guitar, drums and other forms of sound.
When I discovered music production I started combining the organic sounds of instruments with the digital circuitry of synths samples and effects. \n
The direction of my sound goes towards psychedelic inspired World Music, Psytrance and Tekno  
My tracks are for people that love sound design, experimental and progressive patterns, consciousness and shaking their booty!

Alex has been present in the Romanian underground music scene for more than 10 years, being involved in various projects mainly as a guitar / bass / synth player, vocals, and composer. A true music enthusiast, he believes in the power of raw energy sounds. "I think the purpose of music, regardless of the genre, is to free us from all the limitations we might have, but in order to do so, we must stay true to ourselves and to the music we create. It's easy to fall into the trap of being a people pleaser when creating music, but there shouldn't be any extra reason to do it other than expressing our inner selves. It's something I learned along those years and wish I would have known and understood from the beginning."

Playing with time\space\ambientlight. At PWT in the Quark Gallery, the materialization of the project idea was taken up by 3 musicians and 2 visual artists.\n

On the musical experiment side, three members of the experimental improvisation community from PostAnalog Studio Oradea, musicians who work or have worked in the experimental music band Mujko Orchestra, performed:\n

The visual part realized in real-time is an improvised analog experiment by 2 visual artists, Dudas Levente and Fekete Tiberiu.

Maatus Pealler is the electronic alter ego of an artist, professor and musicologist. In his performances and compositions he focuses on exploring new soundscapes by using synthesizers and acoustic instruments as solistic interferences or acousmatic sources. In his DJ sets he acts as a storyteller that can take the listener from 0 to 100 using a tasteful selection of world music, bass, future beats, jazz and uptempo tribal music. He is also known for the Dragonfly Variations, a graphic variations series made by different artists starting from a theme that depicts a dragonfly made of music instruments.

Lautremoi it's an artist based in Cluj Napoca. When he was 4 years old he fell into a deep water and almost die. Since then he emulates the feeling of that day and translate it into music.

Screw is an experimental music project initiated by Alexandra Mocan and Cezar Cîmpeanu, both living in Cluj-Napoca. Based on live improvisation, their aim is to investigate the unlimited potential of sound by screwing up various recorded or synthesized samples and freaking them out with software or hardware tools. With different backgrounds from visual art to architecture, and studies in classical guitar, they started this journey in electronic music in 2019. While Alexandra is usually playing intuitively and likes to mash her own recordings or to steal and then twist various samples, Cezar is synthetizing and resampling sounds, both working together by listening and anticipating each ones next move. Cezar also has a solo project called Zaar, oriented more towards nighttime electronic dance music.


The Mieresch is the German name for the river Mureș (Romanian: [ˈmureʃ]; Hungarian: Maros, IPA: [ˈmɒroʃ];), which is a 789-kilometer-long river in Eastern Europe.\n

We chose this name in 2013, while on vacation on the banks of this river. It is at this place, where we started our first experiment in electro-acoustics, recording our first track, which bears the same name.\n

Ever since, Mieresch has been an ever-changing vessel for sound experimentation. Hailing from Cluj, Transylvania, Romania, we have released several compilations of sketches, touching various genres of music, both through electro-acoustics, but also through more conventional songwriting. Starting with 2019, we started offering live experiences as well. This resulted in an electronic influenced ambient sound, which still dominates our music. 2022 marked the release of our first full-length production, Маньси мойтыт.


Cristian-Emanuel Opriș stands out in 2019 at jam sessions and spoken word poetry performances in Cluj. The following year, he records a musical performance at Cărtureşti, one of the biggest bookstore chains in Romania.\n

Cristi published a work of art every day for 355 days.\n
He is currently working on a new album, which will be called ”Voal”/ ”Veil.\n

There is no specific story behind the songs. But it was a joy to do them, together with Cezar, who helped me a lot with the sound. The way the final tracks sound is to his credit.
